Gloria Calzada of Telemundo's new morning program ESTA MANANA and Roberto Angelelli of Telemundo's AY CARAMBA! co-hosted the gala event which headlined
performances from top stars in Latin music, including Jaci Velasquez, Paulina Rubio,

Latin pop, ballads, norteno and ranchera, with many countless hits. The award is based on
an artist's overall body of work and their contributions to Latin music and culture.
Sponsored by VONS, a Safeway company, La Opinion and Viva 107, the nominees were
selected on the basis of SoundScan, Inc.'s report on record sales from July 1999 to June
2000. The winners were selected by the public, who were invited to vote for their favorite
artists between August 9, 2000 and September 12, 2000 by visiting VONS and Ritmo
Latino Record Stores located throughout the U.S.
